For three years, HOBG and FPNA have advocated for a public waterfront for Providence, oftentimes putting them at odds with the Providence Department of Planning & Development’s vision of a condo on the Bay. What do three candidates for Governor of Rhode Island and the first announced candidate for Mayor of Providence have in common? The same thing that 45 other voices have — a better vision for our great city! Click here.
HOBG foresees an adaptive re-use of Shooters, based on its well-constructed foundation, 1.4 acres of land and an attached marina. The future Providence Gateway offers an excellent venue for retail, marine-related, tourism and restaurant-meeting facility sectors. Interested? Click here for HOBG’s Marketing Brochure.
FPNA supports Head of the Bay Gateway Committee, (HOBG), which has advocated an emerging vision for public, maritime-oriented uses for Providence Gateway.
HOBG emphasizes that the Shooters site, with its deepwater port, provides the necessary maritime link to other modes of transportation found at the Head of Narragansett Bay. Converging at this site are Interstate Highway 195; trolley service to other downtown attractions, the Jewelry District and the universities, a connecting pedestrian bridge, the River Walk and a nexus of interstate bike paths.
Most importantly, Gateway would re-establish the Capitol City’s maritime history by re-connecting it to the commerce and tourism waiting on the horizon.
